Welcome to the new recoin website!

This website is dedicated to the Recoin project which aims to provide a framework for Information Retrieval research. The site contains links to download the Recoin software as well as documentation.

During the last couple of months, a lot of work has gone into developing and refactoring code for Recoin and the release of version 0.3.1 of the Recoin Plug-Ins marks a milestone in the history of the project This website has been set up to reflect the advances that have been made.
The biggest news is that Recoin has been split up into an open source and a commercial part. The original Recoin is still developed and maintained as an open source project at Sourceforge and is released under the terms of the LGPL. The so called Recoin Library has been refactored to form a set of base classes which can be integrated by other software allowing third-party developers to build their own products on top of it

The Recoin Plug-Ins are an example of such a product. They are a set of features and plug-ins for Eclipse that turn the Eclipse platform into a Retrieval Workbench that facilitates Information Retrieval Research by providing a runtime environment for retrieval experiments. Future versions of this product will include more retrieval tools like stemmers, IR system adapters, or analysis and visualization tools. The Recoin Plug-Ins are available in source code under the terms of a special license which restricts the royalty-free use or modification of the plug-ins to non-commercial environments.

The advantages of using Eclipse include:

  • Powerful and fast grapics library to build user interfaces.
  • Advanced plug-in mechanism to add new features.
  • Open extension points through which other plug-ins can contribute to the framework.
  • Secure runtime environment for Recoin.
  • Update mechanism to easily install the latest versions and patches.
  • One of the best IDEs for Java development which lets you write, test, debug, and run your code without ever leaving Eclipse.

So point your Eclipse update manager to http://www.recoin.org/update, and download and install the Recoin features. Then simply follow the guidelines in the integrated help to get started. More details can be found in the documentation section of this website.

Any questions, comments and feedback regarding the software or this website are highly welcome and can be sent directly to me.
